Ricky Thomson

Ricky Thomson is the Head of Decommissioning at Offshore Energies UK and a globally recognised authority in decommissioning operations and project delivery. He leads the module Strategic Leadership & Innovation in Global Decommissioning, providing high-level insights into the technical, commercial, and regulatory dimensions of decommissioning in the UKCS and international markets. 

A Chartered Engineer and Chartered Project Manager (both at Fellow level), Ricky brings over 20 years of global experience delivering major capital projects for operators and EPCIC companies across the UK, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Americas. His career is defined by engineering excellence, strategic innovation, and a commitment to sustainable and cost-effective solutions, having delivered operational and project savings exceeding $1 billion through pioneering processes and technologies. 

Ricky serves as a key technical adviser to the UK government, offering strategic counsel on decommissioning policy, project execution, and regulatory development. As a trusted industry leader, he works closely with senior stakeholders across government, regulators, and the energy supply chain to shape the future of offshore energy decommissioning.
