Biography

Ean Paul is the Heather Wells Decommissioning Superintendent at EnQuest, where he leads the safe, efficient, and strategic execution of late-life asset operations and decommissioning activities. He delivers the module Late-Life Asset Management & Decommissioning Execution, offering learners practical insights into transitioning offshore assets through the final stages of their operational life and into full decommissioning.

With nearly two decades of experience across drilling and engineering roles, including positions at Apache Energy and Vetco Gray, Ean brings a robust technical foundation to his leadership in decommissioning. Since 2019, he has played a key role in EnQuest’s decommissioning strategy, overseeing project delivery and driving alignment with regulatory standards, operational excellence, and environmental responsibility.

In this module, he provides a comprehensive walkthrough of the 16 key steps from the Heather and Thistle decommissioning projects, a large 30,000+ tonne topside structure with 30+ native wells, outlining the decision context required to transition an asset from late-life production through to final removal.

Ean focuses specifically on human factors, preparation for well P&A, and how EnQuest improved project efficiency, delivering measurable cost benefits. He also shares practical strategies for maintaining workforce engagement as crews transition from a production mindset to a removal mindset.
