Experience & Expertise

Training Course Module | Engineering Down and Clean

Nigel Melling delivers his Lean Decom training course module, ‘Engineering Down and Clean’. In this module, he provides a detailed walkthrough of the practical scopes and interfaces involved in making a platform hydrocarbon-free, outlining the decision context required to transition an asset safely from production to disembarkation.

He covers the alignment of EDC activities across various OEUK Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) elements, demonstrating how tasks like well bay clearance and temporary power facilitation connect to the wider decommissioning plan. He also shares professional insight into the core “house of scopes”, including draining, purging, and air-gapping, while advocating for a fit-for-purpose engineering mindset that prioritises lean delivery over traditional production-style templates to enhance project performance.
